Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian is set to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin during his upcoming visit to Kazan, Russia, for the BRICS summit.
Kazem Jalali, Iran’s Ambassador to Moscow, confirmed to TASS news agency that Pezeshkian will attend the annual BRICS summit in Kazan this October, where he will hold talks with Putin. The ambassador expressed optimism about Pezeshkian’s participation, highlighting that preparations are underway to ensure the visit strengthens Tehran-Moscow relations.
“Pezeshkian’s agenda includes a meeting with the Russian President, as well as discussions with other Russian officials,” Jalali noted. He added that the Iranian president will also engage with the Iranian community and deliver a speech at the summit.
Jalali further revealed that a comprehensive cooperation agreement between Iran and Russia may be signed during the visit or shortly thereafter, once the final details are worked out.
The BRICS summits, held annually, bring together leaders from its member nations to address major global economic and political issues. These meetings also offer opportunities to enhance bilateral ties in sectors such as finance, energy, agriculture, and technology.
Russia assumed the BRICS presidency on January 1, 2024, and will hold the position for the year. Iran officially became a BRICS member at the start of 2024, and this year’s summit is expected to discuss Turkey’s potential membership in the group.
