Iran reports two soldiers were killed in Israeli strikes on military targets, but states the damage is limited

Iran reported that an Israeli airstrike on military sites caused “limited” damage and resulted in the deaths of two soldiers.

This attack follows Israel’s warning to retaliate against Iran for a missile barrage that raised concerns of broader conflict in the Middle East.

The Israeli military claimed the strikes targeted missile manufacturing facilities and other military installations, cautioning Iran to expect a significant response if it retaliated. In response, a semi-official Iranian news agency promised a “proportional reaction” to Israel’s actions.

A U.S. official stated that the targets did not include nuclear facilities and confirmed that while the U.S. was informed of the strike plans, it was not involved in the attacks. The Israeli strikes reportedly also impacted military sites in Syria.

Explosions were reported across Tehran and at military bases, beginning in the early hours of Saturday. Iran’s air defense forces confirmed the attacks, stating they had intercepted several incoming threats.

Iranian media showed videos of air defenses engaging with incoming projectiles.

The tensions stem from a missile barrage by Iran on October 1, which killed one person in Israel. The ongoing conflict between Israel and Iran has escalated, particularly following the October 7 attack by Hamas on Israel, which is supported by Hezbollah and allegedly backed by Iran.

Pakistan condemned the Israeli strikes, calling them a violation of international law, and expressed deep concern over the potential for further escalation. The foreign ministry urged for an end to Israeli actions, emphasizing the need for regional peace and stability.

As the situation develops, both sides remain on high alert, with fears of a broader regional conflict looming.
