ISLAMABAD: The International Day of the Seafarer is being observed today, Wednesday, June 25, to honour the vital role that seafarers play in global trade and the world economy.
This year, the 2025 campaign theme is “My Harassment-Free Ship”, focusing on fostering a safe, respectful, and inclusive working environment at sea. The initiative highlights the importance of eliminating bullying, discrimination, and harassment on board vessels and calls for a collective effort from the global maritime community to uphold the dignity and well-being of seafarers.
Established by the International Maritime Organization (IMO), the day aims to recognize the often-overlooked sacrifices made by millions of men and women who spend extended periods at sea, away from their families, ensuring the smooth flow of international commerce.
The observance encourages governments, shipping companies, and maritime stakeholders to take concrete action toward improving working conditions for seafarers and to acknowledge their indispensable contribution to the global economy.
