According to former Israeli Ambassador to India Daniel Carmon, there is speculation that India might be providing arms to Israel as a gesture of reciprocity for Israel’s support during the 1999 Kargil War. Carmon mentioned in an interview with Ynetnews that Israel was one of the few countries to supply India with weapons during its conflict with Pakistan.
Carmon noted, “The Indians always remind us that Israel was there for them during the Kargil war… The Indians don’t forget this and might now be returning the favor.”
During the Kargil War, reports indicate that Israel provided military supplies and equipment such as guided munitions and drones to India. Carmon suggested that India could now be reciprocating this support by supplying drones and artillery shells to Israel amid its ongoing conflict in Gaza.
There have been media reports suggesting that India supplied advanced Hermes 900 drones, manufactured in Hyderabad, to Israel. However, India has not officially confirmed these reports or responded to Carmon’s comments.
In another development, a cargo vessel carrying 27 tons of military supplies from Chennai to Israel was reportedly prevented from docking at the port of Cartagena by Spain in May.
The conflict in Gaza has now lasted eight months, resulting in approximately 38,000 casualties and displacing hundreds of thousands of people.
