Imran Khan views his appointment as Chancellor of Oxford University as an honor for Pakistan

The PTI founder also launched a broadside against Nawaz Sharif.

On Monday, Imran Khan, the founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and former prime minister, remarked that being elected Chancellor of Oxford University would be a significant honor for Pakistan. Speaking from Adiala Jail, where he is detained on multiple charges, Khan emphasized that his achievements remain substantial, regardless of the outcome.

Khan noted his unprecedented accomplishments in Pakistani cricket and his extensive charitable work, including the establishment of two hospitals and two universities, with a third university currently under construction.

He also took the opportunity to criticize the leadership of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), particularly former prime minister Nawaz Sharif. Khan accused Sharif and his party of undermining the military while promoting the notion of respecting the vote, all the while ignoring criticisms of the military establishment.

“Nawaz Sharif has spent two and a half years attacking the army and martial law, all while pretending to uphold the respect for the vote,” Khan stated. “Khawaja Asif has also disparaged the military, but faced no scrutiny.”

Khan further alleged that other political figures, such as Ahsan Iqbal, had also criticized the military, referencing the Hamudur Rehman Commission report and suggesting that Pakistan was on the brink of becoming another Myanmar.

He criticized how discussions about negotiations often reference the events of May 9, claiming it serves as a fallback plan for the current government and political situation.

Khan called for the formation of a judicial commission to investigate the events of May 9, alleging that his abduction and the disappearance of CCTV footage were part of a larger conspiracy. He also reiterated his claims of electoral fraud, asserting that 74,000 votes were manipulated to secure Nawaz Sharif’s victory over PTI candidate Dr. Yasmin Rashid.
