Malaysian Royal Air Force
General Muhammad Asghar Khan, the Chief of the Malaysian Royal Air Force and of Pakistani heritage, recently embarked on a sentimental journey to his hometown of Haryanpur, Pakistan.
The visit, steeped in family connections and memories, offered the distinguished military leader an opportunity to reconnect with his roots.
During his trip, General Asghar Khan paid homage to his late family members by visiting their graves and offering prayers.
His itinerary included a brief but meaningful visit to the village of Beher Haryanpur, where he honored the memories of his late grandfather, Malik Qalandar Khan, uncle Malik Muhammad Yaqoob, cousin Hafiz Rameez, and grandmother.
The two-hour visit allowed him to reflect on his heritage and bond with relatives in the area.
District Police Officer Farhan Khan reported that the Malaysian Air Chief spent his time in Beher Haryanpur meeting relatives and reminiscing about his ancestral lineage.
Mukhtar Ahmed, Assistant Director of Local Government Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and a cousin of General Asghar Khan, provided additional insights into the family’s history.
According to Ahmed, Malik Qalandar Khan, the general’s grandfather, migrated to Malaysia before the creation of Pakistan.
It was in Malaysia that General Asghar Khan’s father, Gohar Aman, and uncle, Malik Muhammad Yaqoob, were born.
General Asghar Khan’s father, Gohar Aman, pursued a career in law enforcement, retiring as an officer in the Malaysian police.
Despite spending most of his life abroad, the family’s strong ties to their ancestral homeland have endured over the decades. Mukhtar Ahmed also noted that General Asghar Khan belongs to the Awan tribe, a prominent community in the region.
This visit was not the general’s first connection to Pakistan. In 2008, he traveled to Karachi for professional training.
His recent trip, however, carried personal significance, highlighting his commitment to maintaining familial and cultural connections despite his global responsibilities.
