Terrorist Attacks
The Foreign Office (FCDO) has issued updated travel advice, cautioning British tourists about an elevated threat of terrorist attacks in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
The FCDO’s latest assessment deems the risk of terrorist attacks in the UAE as “very likely.” Travelers are advised to exercise caution as these attacks could occur indiscriminately, even in locations commonly visited by foreigners.
The advisory further underscores that terrorists have continued to issue threats and statements, some of which target Western interests in the Gulf region. It is recommended that travelers maintain a high level of security awareness, especially in public places and during public events.

While the advice does not specifically mention the Israel-Hamas conflict, it provides context regarding past incidents. In January 2022, a number of missiles and unmanned aerial systems (drones) were launched into the UAE from Yemen, targeting infrastructure and high-profile locations.
Most of these missiles and drones were intercepted and destroyed, but there were still a small number of casualties. For instance, on 17 January 2022, the UAE authorities confirmed a Houthi attack on civilian facilities in Abu Dhabi that resulted in the deaths of three civilians.
The FCDO emphasizes that further attacks are likely, and should such an incident occur, travelers should closely monitor local media reports and follow the guidance of local authorities.
It is also stressed that obtaining comprehensive travel insurance is now more important than ever, and travelers should ensure their insurance offers sufficient coverage. Additionally, the FCDO advises visitors to stay updated on entry requirements and restrictions, as these regulations may change with little notice.
As of now, there are no official travel warnings in place against any part of the UAE, but travelers are urged to stay vigilant and informed given the updated assessment of the terrorist threat in the region.
