In a scathing rebuke, the Congress party has demanded Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s resignation, citing the BJP’s potential loss of seats in the Lok Sabha elections.
The party’s general secretary, Jairam Ramesh, took to social media to express his views, saying that the Prime Minister must take moral responsibility for the outcome. Ramesh claimed that Modi’s “extraordinary” persona had been discredited by the election results, and urged him to step down.
According to the Election Commission of India’s data, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was leading in 236 seats, with the majority mark in the Lok Sabha standing at 272.
In contrast, the Congress party was ahead in 99 seats, while the Samajwadi Party and Trinamool Congress were leading in 37 and 31 seats, respectively.
Meanwhile, preliminary data from the EC and television reports suggest that the INDIA bloc is poised to win over 200 seats, a significant outcome that will likely have a major impact on the country’s political landscape.
