First-ever contact: Iranian President Raisi and Saudi Crown Prince discuss the Israel-Palestine conflict

In a historic development, Iranian President Raisi and Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman recently held their inaugural phone conversation about the Israel-Palestine conflict following the recent restoration of diplomatic relations between these two influential regional powers.

This momentous discussion, spanning around 45 minutes, centered on the pivotal issue of Palestine, capturing significant global attention.

The eagerly awaited exchange followed a groundbreaking agreement brokered by China. It paved the way for the reestablishment of diplomatic ties between Iran and Saudi Arabia.

During their unprecedented phone call, President Raisi and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman addressed the pressing concerns surrounding the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

Iranian state media reported that the leaders emphasized the urgent necessity to halt the ongoing war crimes being perpetrated against the Palestinian population.

Against the grim backdrop of their conversation was the dire situation unfolding in Palestinian territories, notably in the Gaza Strip.

Tragically, the death toll among Palestinians in Gaza has risen to a distressing 1,100 individuals, with an additional 5,339 reported as injured. These harrowing statistics serve as a testament to the human toll exacted by relentless Israeli airstrikes over the past five days.

Meanwhile, Israeli airstrikes on Gaza killed nine staff members of the United Nations on Wednesday.

Nine employees of the United Nations (UN) have lost their lives in Israeli airstrikes on Gaza since the start of the bombardment on Saturday, according to a statement from the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA). The casualties include six UNRWA staff members and three contractors, with three teachers also injured.

UNRWA schools throughout the Gaza Strip, including the Rehabilitation Centre for the Visually Impaired and two vocational centers in Gaza and Khan Younis, remain closed. In total, the airstrikes have affected 20 installations since the start of the conflict on October 7.
