ISLAMABAD: The inaugural shipment of high-grade cattle, imported from Brazil through the Special Investment Council (SIFC), has reached Pakistan. This milestone marks a significant stride towards fortifying the Green Pakistan Livestock Initiative (GPLI), an integral component established under the auspices of the SIFC, aimed at fostering agricultural progress.
These cattle, distinguished by their superior genetic makeup, are poised to be disseminated among local farmers to fulfill their burgeoning meat and milk production requirements. Among the imported cattle are representatives of nine distinct breeds, comprising indigenous Pakistani breeds as well as those originating from Brazil.
Following their arrival, these cattle have been transported from Sialkot to Okara, where they are slated to undergo a mandatory two-week quarantine period to ensure biosecurity measures are adhered to.
The pivotal role played by FONGROW, a company established under the Green Pakistan Initiative, in facilitating this landmark agreement cannot be overstated. Their contribution underscores the collaborative efforts towards enhancing the livestock sector in Pakistan.
Under the terms of the agreement, Pakistan has welcomed the introduction of nine diverse breeds of cattle from Brazil, enriching the country’s genetic stock and potentially augmenting its agricultural productivity.
In a recent interview, Brazilian Ambassador Olyntho Vieira expressed optimism regarding the burgeoning bilateral trade prospects between Brazil and Pakistan. He also reminisced about the historical exchange of red Sindhi cattle from Pakistan to Brazil in the 1950s, a testament to the enduring relationship between the two nations and the preservation efforts that ensued.
