A former US Army officer has alleged that Yemen, with assistance from Russian satellite technology, thwarted an Israeli attempt to infiltrate the country and killed 70 of their personnel.
In an interview, retired US Colonel Douglas Macgregor claimed that approximately 70 Israeli special forces, alongside an unspecified number of American mercenaries, infiltrated Yemen. He asserted that Russian satellites tracked these operatives, with the intelligence being relayed to Iranian forces.
According to Macgregor, the Houthis, described as “tough hombres on the battlefield,” ambushed and eliminated the infiltration team. He noted that footage of the deceased operatives indicated they were primarily Israeli, with some American mercenaries and possibly British contractors.
Macgregor highlighted that persistent surveillance today significantly impacts warfare, making it challenging for forces to infiltrate regions without detection. He suggested this incident serves as a “wake-up call” for both Israel and the US, calling for a reassessment of space-based reconnaissance and intelligence strategies.
In related developments, Hezbollah chief Hassan Nasrallah recently warned of a forthcoming response to Israel’s killing of its top military commander, Fuad Shukr. Nasrallah stated that the deaths of Shukr and Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh had crossed critical red lines. He declared that the “enemy” and its supporters should anticipate their inevitable retaliation.
In response, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu affirmed that Israel is prepared for any potential “aggression” following threats of retaliation over the killings of Haniyeh and Shukr.
