Electricity Crisis in Gaza Hospital Results in Tragic Deaths of Three Palestinian Infants

Electricity Crisis

Amid Israel’s month-long military campaign targeting Hamas in north Gaza, major hospitals, including Al-Shifa, face severe challenges due to power shortages. Gaza health ministry spokesperson Ashraf Al-Qidra reported that three premature babies have died, and dozens are at risk due to the lack of electricity.

Al-Qidra accused Israeli fire of terrorizing both medical officials and civilians. Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari, Israel’s chief military spokesperson, stated that the military would assist in evacuating babies from the hospital at the staff’s request.

Al-Qidra revealed that, out of 45 babies, three had already died, and the hospital was not provided guidance on evacuating the infants to safety.

The plastic surgeon at Al Shifa, Dr. Ahmed El Mokhallalati, explained the challenging situation, with premature babies placed on ordinary beds due to bomb damage to the incubator area. He acknowledged the high risk, anticipating further losses.

In the Indonesian Hospital in Beit Lahiya, another baby boy named Mosab Subeih was admitted after a house was struck by an Israeli missile. The escalating Israeli bombardment continues to result in more casualties, leaving fewer places for the injured to receive care.

Hospitals in north Gaza are struggling to provide adequate medical attention, exacerbating the humanitarian crisis in the region. The precarious conditions, including power shortages and damaged facilities, pose significant challenges to the safety and well-being of the civilian population, especially infants and vulnerable patients.

The international community faces mounting calls to address the urgent humanitarian needs in Gaza and work toward a resolution to the ongoing conflict. Overall, electricity crisis in north Gaza hospitals intensifies, leading to deaths of three premature babies and endangering dozens.
