The chairman of the astronomy institution, Muhammad Shaukat, predicts that Eidul Fitr will fall on April 22 (Saturday) this year, while the International Astronomy Centre states that it is unlikely the Shawwal moon will be visible on April 20 (Thursday) in Saudi Arabia.
The Saudi Supreme Court invites residents to observe the moon on Thursday and to provide their evidence at the nearest court.
Observing the moon determines the duration of Ramadan, with the holy month lasting either 29 or 30 days.
If the moon is visible on Thursday, Saudi Arabia will celebrate Eid on Friday, April 21.

The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee is scheduling the sighting of the Eid ul Fitr crescent moon for April 20, according to a statement issued by the religious affairs ministry on Tuesday.
Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad, Chairman of the Ruet-e-Halal Committee, will preside over the meeting, which will take place at the Religious Affairs Ministry in Islamabad.
