Duchess Sophie is carrying on the legacy of her mother-in-law, Queen Elizabeth II, as confirmed by the palace.
Recently, the palace shared beautiful photos of Duchess Sophie’s visit to Malta on its official X and Instagram accounts, accompanied by a heartfelt message.
The palace announced, “An Out of This World Day! The Duchess of Edinburgh joined 100 Girlguiding members for a live Q&A with astronaut Sunita Williams aboard the International Space Station!” This unique radio contact, conducted at Brooklands Museum, celebrated girls in STEM fields and provided an opportunity for the Girlguides to ask Sunita questions about life in space, including what she eats and what space smells like.
Additionally, the statement noted, “The Duchess was presented with a special Girlguiding badge, marking her new role as Patron, following in the footsteps of Queen Elizabeth II.” This appointment underscores her commitment to supporting initiatives that empower young women in science and technology.
The Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh are currently in Malta to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the country’s independence, further emphasizing their dedication to international relations and community engagement.
This visit not only honors Malta’s significant milestone but also showcases the Duchess’s active role in promoting education and inspiration among young girls, mirroring the efforts of her late mother-in-law, who championed similar causes throughout her reign.
