Hunan University of Medicine in China recently inaugurated a research center named in honor of Pakistani scientist Professor Dr. Muhammad Iqbal Choudhary, acknowledging his contributions to science and efforts in fostering collaboration between China and Pakistan. The new center will employ 17 full-time researchers focused on strengthening bilateral research in various scientific fields, according to a press release.
Founded in 1912, Hunan University of Medicine is one of China’s national public medical universities. It offers approximately 20 undergraduate and graduate medical programs, with a faculty exceeding 4,500 members and a student body of 14,425. The university’s establishment of this research facility under Dr. Choudhary’s name reflects a growing commitment to international scientific collaboration, especially with Pakistan.
Dr. Choudhary, a prominent figure in bio-organic chemistry, has long advocated for enhanced cooperation between Pakistani and Chinese scientists. His vision included establishing joint research centers between the two countries to address global scientific challenges collaboratively. His achievements have earned him numerous awards, including Pakistan’s Hilal-i-Imtiaz, Sitara-i-Imtiaz, and Tamgha-i-Imtiaz. In 2021, he was also honored with the prestigious Mustafa Prize for his contributions to bio-organic chemistry.
Currently, Dr. Choudhary serves as Vice President of the World Academy of Sciences for Central and South Asia and is a research fellow with internationally respected scientific organizations such as the Academy of Sciences for the Developing World (TWAS) and the Royal Society of Chemistry in London.
The newly established research center is expected to play a pivotal role in advancing scientific research and innovation between China and Pakistan, aligning with Dr. Choudhary’s dedication to building academic bridges between the two countries. This collaboration represents a notable step forward in mutual scientific endeavors, contributing to a global scientific community.
