Use of Force
BEIJING: China on Thursday expressed strong opposition to the use of force in international conflicts, responding to remarks by U.S. President Donald Trump in which he warned that Washington is considering military intervention in the ongoing conflict between Israel and Iran.
Speaking at a regular press briefing, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun reiterated Beijing’s consistent stance against foreign aggression and the use or threat of force. “China opposes any act that infringes upon the sovereignty, security, and territorial integrity of other countries,” Guo said, emphasizing the importance of upholding international law and peaceful diplomacy.
China also issued a direct appeal to all parties involved in the Middle East crisis, particularly Israel, to prioritize the well-being of the region’s populations. “China strongly calls on all parties involved in the conflict, especially Israel, to put the interests of the region’s people first, immediately cease fire and stop fighting,” Guo said. The statement came after renewed hostilities between Israel and Iran heightened global concerns over the potential for a broader regional war.
President Trump’s comments about weighing U.S. military options have alarmed several global actors, including China, which views the possibility of U.S. involvement as a dangerous escalation.
Beijing has consistently advocated for restraint and diplomacy in Middle Eastern affairs, calling for a cessation of hostilities and respect for national sovereignty.
Meanwhile, in Tehran, Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi issued a stark warning to the United States, cautioning against any military intervention in support of Israel. Speaking to Iranian state television, Gharibabadi stated that Iran is prepared to defend itself and respond decisively to any acts of aggression.
“If the United States wants to actively enter the field in favour of the Zionist regime, Iran will have to use its tools to both teach a lesson to aggressors and defend its national security and national interests,” he warned.
The deputy minister further emphasized that Iran’s military leadership has already prepared “all necessary options,” signaling Tehran’s readiness for a full-scale response if provoked.
The exchange of rhetoric between major global powers and regional actors reflects the rapidly deteriorating security situation in the Middle East. China’s remarks underscore growing international anxiety over the spiraling conflict and the risk of a wider war involving multiple state actors.
As diplomatic efforts remain fragile, the international community watches closely, urging de-escalation and calling on all parties to seek peaceful, negotiated solutions to avoid further destabilization in the region.
