President Joe Biden condemned the assassination attempt on Republican rival Donald Trump on Sunday, calling for national unity and ordering a review of security measures at the rally where Trump was injured.
Amid a contentious campaign leading up to the November 5 election, Biden emphasized the importance of coming together. “Unity is the most elusive goal of all, but it is vital right now. We can debate and disagree, but we must remember who we are as Americans,” he stated.
Biden reported having a brief but positive conversation with Trump that evening and expressed gratitude for Trump’s recovery. He also called for an investigation into how the shooter managed to get into a position to fire at Trump.
“There is no place for this kind of violence in America, or for any violence at all. An assassination attempt goes against everything we stand for as a nation,” he declared.
Report Claims Suspected Trump Rally Shooter Had Explosive Devices In Car
Meanwhile, United States authorities discovered explosive devices in the vehicle of a man who allegedly attempted to assassinate former president Donald Trump, the Wall Street Journal reported on Sunday, citing unnamed sources.
The car, driven by the suspect Thomas Matthew Crooks, was found near the Trump rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, on Saturday. Both the Wall Street Journal and ABC News reported that the gun used by Crooks was purchased by his father.
CNN further reported that explosive materials were also found in Crooks’ residence.
The incident is being investigated as an assassination attempt.
Trump, who is once again a candidate for the US presidential elections, was attacked during a campaign rally. He was shot in the ear, causing blood to streak across his face and prompting a rapid response from his security agents. Despite the attack, Trump emerged and signaled to the crowd, mouthing “Fight! Fight! Fight!”
