No Immediate Suspects Identified in Attack on Iran’s National Police, 10 Officers Killed. Authorities have yet to identify any immediate suspects in the attack that killed 10 members of Iran’s national police force in the country’s volatile southeast. Local media, including ISNA, Mehr, and Tasnim, reported the fatalities resulting from the assault in Gohar Kuh, located about 1,200 kilometers southeast of Tehran.
The state-run IRNA news agency described the convoy as having been targeted by “miscreants,” but did not provide further details. According to IRNA, a police statement indicated that “10 personnel in two patrol units” were killed in what was characterized as an ambush.
No group has claimed responsibility for the attack, which follows a significant Israeli offensive across Iran earlier that same morning.
IRNA also reported that Eskandar Momeni, Iran’s interior minister, has ordered an investigation into the incident, which it referred to as resulting in the “martyrdom of a number of police.”
The Baluch region has experienced a low-level insurgency for over two decades, and verifying information in Sistan-Baluchistan remains challenging.
