Anti-Semitism Claims Used to Silence Israel Critics, Says Ex-Tory Minister

Anti-Semitism Claims

Alan Duncan, a former UK Foreign Office minister and Conservative politician with 27 years in Parliament and multiple ministerial roles, has accused his own party of corruption.

This came after an internal investigation cleared him of allegations of anti-Semitism, which he criticized as a baseless attempt to silence him.

The controversy stemmed from comments Duncan made during an LBC interview in April. He criticized the Conservative Friends of Israel (CFI) parliamentary group, alleging it wielded undue influence over UK government policy by advocating for Israeli Premier Netanyahu’s interests outside normal governmental processes.

The Conservative Party initiated an investigation into Duncan’s remarks, alleging they contained anti-Semitic implications by suggesting Jewish loyalty to Israel superseded loyalty to their own country.

Despite being exonerated by the internal inquiry, Duncan expressed outrage over the party’s decision to investigate without a formal complaint, suggesting it was a fabricated effort to stifle dissent.

He condemned the misuse of accusations of anti-Semitism in British politics to suppress legitimate criticism, urging the media to scrutinize such motives carefully and distinguish between genuine concerns and politically motivated allegations.

Beyond internal party conflicts, Duncan remains vocal on Middle East issues, particularly criticizing Israeli policies towards Palestinians.

He condemned Israel’s military actions in Gaza following attacks by Hamas, labeling them as “ethnic cleansing” and urging international scrutiny.

He criticized the international community’s response, calling for a stronger stance against Israeli settlements and human rights violations.

Duncan emphasized the importance of returning to moderate dialogue between Israelis and Palestinians, lamenting the influence of Israeli extremism under Netanyahu’s leadership.

He called for support of international law and UN resolutions regarding Palestinian rights, urging the media to refocus attention on these critical issues.

In summary, Duncan’s outspoken stance reflects ongoing tensions within the Conservative Party over Middle East policy and the handling of allegations of anti-Semitism.

His critique underscores broader concerns about political integrity and the need for principled international diplomacy in addressing conflicts in the region.
