Amid the recent U.S. ban on the popular video editing app CapCut, Instagram has swiftly stepped in to fill the gap with the launch of its new app, Edits. Developed by Meta, this free video editing tool is designed specifically for creators and is already available for pre-order on the U.S. App Store.
The official launch is scheduled for next month, and Instagram head Adam Mosseri has confirmed that an Android version is also in the works, expected to roll out soon.
Edits aims to empower creators with a suite of advanced features that simplify video production and enhance creativity. The app provides tools for capturing and editing vertical videos, making it versatile for content creation across various platforms.
For Instagram users, Edits offers seamless integration with Reels, enabling creators to track real-time performance insights such as engagement metrics, which can help them optimize their content strategy.
The app also introduces a dedicated “Inspiration” tab, which allows creators to explore trends and gather creative ideas. Standard editing tools like green screen effects, overlays, voiceovers, and captions are included, ensuring that users have access to all the essentials needed for professional-quality video editing.
One of the standout features of Edits is its AI-powered animation tool, which can bring static images to life, adding a dynamic element to content.
Additionally, the app’s advanced camera settings allow creators to adjust resolution, framerate, dynamic range, flash, and zoom, giving them greater control over the quality of their footage.
Edits also supports collaborative workflows by allowing users to share and work on video drafts together, making it a valuable tool for teams or co-creators.
With the launch of Edits, Meta is positioning itself as a strong competitor in the video editing space, challenging CapCut and other similar tools.
By offering an all-in-one solution with AI capabilities and advanced features, Meta is looking to attract creators and solidify its presence in the market. Stay tuned for the app’s official release next month!
