NEW DELHI: A 47-year-old unemployed man from Mysuru in Karnataka has been arrested. He allegedly sent more than 1,100 hoax bomb threats across India.
Delhi Police identified the suspect as Srinivas Louis. He was picked up from his rented house in Mysuru last Thursday. The arrest was made in a joint operation with local police.
The threats targeted schools, high courts, government offices, and other important buildings. They caused widespread panic. They forced evacuations and disrupted normal life in many places. One Delhi High Court judge even filed a formal complaint after receiving a threat email.
Louis, who holds a postgraduate degree and is originally from Bengaluru, lives with his retired mother. Police say he appears to be suffering from mental distress. During initial questioning, he reportedly confessed to sending the threats through emails and other channels.
Officers recovered a laptop and several SIM cards from his house. They are now examining the digital evidence. They want to see exactly how many institutions were targeted.
Threats created chaos across the country
Between March 2025 and March 2026, schools alone received around 600 to 700 hoax bomb threats. Delhi-NCR saw over 500 of them. The worst day was in September 2025. On that day, more than 300 schools in Delhi got threats in a single day. Another spike happened in December 2025.
Other cities like Bengaluru, Jaipur, Mumbai, and Noida also reported dozens of cases.
Police are now working with different states to identify every place that received threats. They are also trying to figure out if Louis acted alone or had any help.
He was produced before a local court in Mysuru. He is being brought to Delhi for further questioning.
