The Indian Army has reportedly detained 18 Sikh soldiers for allegedly questioning the official account of the April 22 Pahalgam attack in Indian-administered Jammu and Kashmir.
According to Indian media outlet Republic TV, the soldiers are expected to face court-martial proceedings on charges of insubordination and refusal to participate in military operations.
The action comes following a decision by the Modi government to prosecute the soldiers, who are accused of defying orders and sharing critical remarks on social media. Their posts reportedly challenged the legitimacy of the Pahalgam incident, suggesting it was a “false flag operation” designed to discredit Pakistan.
The soldiers are also alleged to have refused participation in what they described as a politically driven military action.
Related Incident in Dehradun
In a separate but related development, a junior doctor in Dehradun, Uttarakhand, has been booked for allegedly distributing sweets to celebrate the Pahalgam incident.
The 27-year-old reportedly shared sweets at a local hospital on April 23, a day after the attack. Authorities have since initiated legal proceedings against him.
These incidents have sparked controversy and raised questions about dissent within ranks and broader public reactions to the Pahalgam attack narrative.
