ISLAMABAD: Former Pakistan pacer Mohammad Amir has predicted that India will not qualify for the T20 World Cup semi-finals, citing persistent batting collapses as the main obstacle in their campaign. He shared his views during Geo News’ programme Harna Mana Hai while analyzing the Super Eights stage.
Amir Backs South Africa and West Indies for the Semi-Finals
Amir, who played a key role in Pakistan’s 2009 T20 World Cup triumph, said South Africa and West Indies will advance to the semi-finals. He argued that India’s batting lineup struggles under pressure and collapses frequently, except in matches against Pakistan. Therefore, he believes the added intensity of the Super Eights will further expose their weaknesses.
Moreover, Amir praised the West Indies for their balanced squad. He highlighted bowlers Gudakesh Motie, Akeal Hosein, Jason Holder, and Shamar Joseph as major strengths. In addition, he described Sherfane Rutherford and Rovman Powell as powerful hitters who can dominate any bowling attack. Consequently, he sees the West Indies as a serious title contender.
Panelists Offer Differing Predictions
Amir also expressed confidence in South Africa’s all-round strength. He stated that their fast bowling attack looks complete, their spinners deliver consistently, and their batting unit remains in strong form. As a result, he expects them to secure a semi-final berth.
However, other panelists disagreed with Amir’s assessment. Former captain Rashid Latif predicted a Pakistan-India semi-final clash, while Ahmed Shehzad backed India and South Africa to advance. The debate has intensified as teams prepare for decisive Super Eights fixtures.
