Imran Khan’s sister Uzma Khan and her husband have purchased over 5,000 Kanal land in the Nawankot area of Choubara district Layyah for just Rs132 million. The market value of the purchased land is said to be more than Rs700 million.
After the Asian Development Bank (ADB) announced its support for the Greater Thal Canal Project, the land was purchased.
According to Punjab Land Records Authority records, the PTI chief’s sister Uzma Khan and brother-in-law Ahad Majeed Khan s/o Allah Dad Khan, both from the Niazi tribe, purchased 3,061 Kanal land in Nawankot worth Rs500 million for only Rs76.2 million. This was obtained during the tenure of Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar.
According to local officials, 1,500 kanals of the 3,061 Kanal land purchased from eight individuals last year were transferred to the PTI chief’s sister and 1,561 to her husband.
During the same time period, the husband and wife purchased 2,200 kanals worth over Rs200 million for only 55 million rupees.
In June 2022, Imran’s sister and brother-in-law paid 2.2 million rupees in tax on 5,261 kanal land worth over 700 million rupees. Despite the fact that the said land does not exist and that the true owners are unknown, the land has been sold in the land revenue record.
At least 500 kanal of Nawankot land was allegedly forcibly evacuated because identifying the true owners of Nawankot land was impossible.
Masood Yaseen sold 200 kanal, Umer Hayat sold 200 kanal, Muhammad Ilyas sold 1,200 kanal, Muhammad Rafique sold 450 kanal, Aziz Qazi sold 160 kanal, Husnain Magsi sold 351 kanal, and Ghulam Habib sold 350 kanal.
The Greater Thal Canal project is currently underway.
When the SAMAA Investigation Unit approached Ahad Majeed Khan, he refused to share the details of how he was able to purchase such valuable land for such a low price.
Local government officials, on the other hand, stated that Uzma Khan was in Nawankot to take possession of the land.
It is worth noting that the Asian Development Bank (ADB) has announced its support for the Greater Thal Canal Project, which will be built in the area.
Greater Thal Canal projects require a total area of 1646A-6K-5M, while the awarded area is 1640A-1K-13M (Private Land) and 6A-4K-12M. (Forest Land). Among the total of 10,186 project affectees, 5,660 have received compensation totaling Rs58.864 million rupees, with 4526 still owed Rs947080.
