Media in Pakistan claimed on Sunday that Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan will make his first trip to Russia as Prime Minister, this month. It will be the first visit of a Pakistani PM in 23 years.
Russia’s President Vladimir Putin has requested this trip, according to ARY News.
Ministers from Imran Khan’s cabinet are scheduled to accompany the Pakistani leader on this trip.
Pakistan’s last PM to travel to Russia was Nawaz Sharif, in March 1999.
This follows claims that Moscow and Islamabad are in the process of finalising a plan for Putin’s visit this year, which was first reported last month.
According to sources, Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan has already issued a formal invitation to Russian President Vladimir Putin.

The COVID-19 outbreak had been cited as one of the reasons why Putin’s visit to Pakistan had been on hold for the last two years, according to a Pakistani publication.
According to the source, Moscow also wants the Russian president to announce “big-ticket projects” or other efforts when he ultimately makes the trip to Pakistan.
