Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan has raised concerns over Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman’s demands for forming a grand opposition alliance.
According to sources, Fazlur Rehman’s three key demands were conveyed to Imran Khan through PTI leaders.
These include leading the opposition alliance, joining the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government, and implementing a minus-PTM formula.
PTI leaders held two consultative meetings with Imran Khan to deliberate on these demands, nevertheless, he expressed reservations. Several party leaders advised Khan against trusting Fazlur Rehman, citing his recent support for the 26th amendment.
As of now, Imran Khan has not officially responded to Fazlur Rehman’s demands.
This development follows a meeting between a PTI delegation, led by Opposition Leader in the National Assembly Omar Ayub Khan, and Maulana Fazlur Rehman at his residence in Islamabad.
During the meeting, both sides discussed the prevailing political situation, and PTI leaders invited Fazlur Rehman to join the opposition’s grand alliance.
Afterward, PTI leader Omar Ayub Khan announced the dissolution of the party’s negotiating committee, stating that talks with the government had ended.
Meanwhile, PTI appears to be divided over its approach to JUI-F. Sources indicate that the party is split into two factions regarding engagement with Fazlur Rehman.
One faction, led by KP Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur and his allies, strongly opposes any alliance with JUI-F. The other faction, including former National Assembly Speaker Asad Qaiser and Opposition Leader Omar Ayub, supports fostering better ties with JUI-F and other opposition parties.
