Former prime minister’s Imran Khan Undergoes Successful Eye Procedure at PIMS, Doctors Report no Complications. The procedure was confirmed by PIMS Executive Director Professor Dr Rana Imran Sikander, who shared the medical details earlier in the day.
According to the hospital, doctors carried out the procedure after a detailed medical evaluation. Imran Khan, who is currently incarcerated, had reported reduced vision in his right eye. As a result, Pims arranged a thorough assessment inside Adiala Jail. A qualified ophthalmologist visited the prison and conducted multiple diagnostic tests.
These tests included eye pressure measurements, retinal imaging, and other essential laboratory examinations. Doctors also performed ocular endoscopy and OCT scans of the retina. After reviewing the results, the medical team diagnosed right central retinal vein occlusion. Based on this finding, doctors advised hospital-based treatment.
Following this recommendation, authorities shifted Imran Khan to Pims in Islamabad late at night. Doctors then prepared for the short procedure, which aimed to address the eye condition and prevent further vision loss.
Procedure lasted 20 minutes, vitals stayed stable
Dr Sikander stated that the medical intervention lasted around 20 minutes. He added that the process went smoothly from start to finish. Throughout the procedure, the former prime minister remained vitally stable. Doctors closely monitored his condition inside the operation theatre.
Before starting, the medical team fully explained the procedure to the patient. They also obtained informed consent, as required under standard medical protocols. The treatment took place in a sterile environment with continuous monitoring.
After the procedure, doctors discharged Imran Khan with routine post-procedure care instructions. They also provided follow-up advice and relevant medical documents. Hospital officials stressed that the treatment followed standard operating procedures and professional medical guidelines.
Earlier, Information Minister Attaullah Tarar had also confirmed the procedure. He stated that Imran Khan underwent treatment for an eye ailment at a hospital in Islamabad on January 24. According to the minister, the visit was brief and focused solely on medical care.
PTI approaches Supreme Court over doctorsโ access
Meanwhile, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf has moved the Supreme Court over Imran Khanโs medical care. On Thursday, the party requested the courtโs help to arrange a meeting between its founder and his personal physicians. PTI asked for the assistance of the Chief Justice of Pakistan to facilitate the process.
The party argues that regular access to personal doctors is necessary for proper treatment. This request came shortly after reports about the eye procedure surfaced. PTI leaders say they want transparency and continued medical oversight.
Officials at PIMS assert that the hospital ensured timely and complete treatment, managed throughout by qualified specialists. According to the hospital, the former prime ministerโs condition remains stable, and no immediate complications have been observed.
