ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court on Tuesday restored interim bail to Dr. Fazeela Abbasi in a high-profile money laundering case involving billions of rupees and barred police from arresting her.
Justice Azam Khan heard the petition and directed Dr. Fazeela to submit bail bonds worth Rs. 100,000. Furthermore, the court instructed her to approach the trial court for further proceedings. She appeared before the bench alongside her counsel, Naeem Bukhari.
During the hearing, Bukhari argued that his client had appeared in court ten times and missed only one hearing due to medical reasons, for which she submitted a certificate. However, the trial court had earlier rejected her bail plea over her absence.
Earlier the same day, Dr Fazeela filed a petition seeking restoration of her bail, and the Registrarโs Office promptly fixed the case for hearing.
Meanwhile, the Federal Investigation Agency intensified its probe into her alleged financial activities. Officials from its Corporate Crime Circle initiated legal action against her beauty clinic for operating without a license in a residential area of Islamabad. Authorities also reported recovering unregistered and substandard medicines from the premises.
In addition, investigators alleged that her clinic violated healthcare laws and civic regulations, while evidence tampering was also suspected before the FIA raid.
The agency further accused Dr Fazeela of conducting suspicious transactions exceeding Rs. 2.5 billion through 22 bank accounts, despite declaring minimal income. The probe also revealed possible violations of foreign exchange laws, including transactions in foreign currencies and alleged use of hawala and hundi channels.
Authorities have expanded the investigation to identify accomplices, indicating that more arrests are expected.
