ISLAMABAD: Islamabad High Court Chief Justice Sarfaraz Dogar expressed surprise on Wednesday over the practice of sessions and additional sessions judges ordering the blocking of citizensโ Computerised National Identity Cards (CNICs).
He made the remarks during the hearing of a petition filed by a citizen. The citizenโs CNIC was blocked on court orders. The Chief Justice said he could not understand why these judges were issuing such directives.
CJ Voices Concern Over Unusual Practice
In addition, Justice Dogar said he could not comprehend the legal foundation of the orders issued to block CNICs. He turned to the assistant attorney general to address the issue. He asked for an analysis of whether such actions could be taken by lower courts.
The move highlights growing concern among high court judges regarding the frequent issuance of CNIC blocking orders by lower courts. This practice is causing considerable problems for ordinary citizens in their daily lives.
Case Adjourned for Further Input
Moreover, after hearing preliminary arguments, the court postponed its ruling to a later date. During this time, the assistant attorney general will submit a response. Legal analysts believe that the decision of the Supreme Court may help establish guidelines. These guidelines would clarify the conditions under which CNICs can be blocked by judicial authorities.
It is important to note that many citizens have previously complained about such directives. These orders were often issued without prior notice. This has created serious difficulties for affected individuals.
