Huawei has launched its Mate 80 series in China, and the top variant, the Huawei Mate 80 Pro Max, is already making headlines. The company claims the device features the world’s brightest smartphone screen, reaching an incredible 8,000 nits peak brightness thanks to its dual-layer OLED technology.
This brightness level surpasses Realme’s GT 8 Pro, which claims 7,000 nits, and significantly exceeds the Pixel 10 Pro’s 3,300 nits. Although peak brightness applies only to small parts of the screen under specific conditions, the figure still indicates exceptional outdoor visibility and improved contrast in bright environments.
All four Mate 80 models now come with flat displays and squared edges, continuing the industry trend away from curved screens. The design also incorporates a large circle at the back to highlight the wireless charging coil, paired with the round camera module to create an aesthetic “8” shape.

Huawei introduced four phones in the series: the Mate 80, Mate 80 Pro, Mate 80 Pro Max, and the Mate 80 RS Ultimate Design. The RS model offers up to 20GB of RAM and features a premium look based on the Pro Max. All devices are powered by Huawei’s Kirin processors. Battery capacity tops out at 6,000mAh in the Pro Max, which is modest compared to other flagship phones, but Huawei has focused heavily on camera performance, including dual periscope lenses and support for an optional telephoto extender.
Huawei also unveiled the new Mate X7 foldable, which now comes with IP58 and IP59 dust and water protection. The foldable includes a larger 5,600mAh battery, bigger displays, upgraded cameras, and an improved chipset, positioning it as a strong competitor to Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold models.
This launch event featured more than just phones. Huawei also announced new products across smartwatches, laptops, earbuds, tablets, TVs, and networking devices. For now, everything remains exclusive to China, though select products may receive limited international releases in the future.
