Bollywood actress Sonakshi Sinha recently opened up about the nerve-wracking experience of discussing her desire to marry Zaheer Iqbal with her father, veteran actor Shatrughan Sinha.
In a candid interview, Sonakshi and Zaheer shared how they navigated this important conversation to gain Shatrughan Sinha’s acceptance.
Sonakshi admitted feeling extremely anxious before approaching her father. “I was very nervous about telling my father about Zaheer,” she confessed. “I didn’t know how to bring it up, fearing he might react angrily.”
Gathering her courage, Sonakshi eventually broached the topic with her father in a straightforward manner. “I went to him and asked, ‘Aren’t you concerned about my marriage? You’ve never spoken about it,'” she recounted.
To her surprise, Shatrughan Sinha responded calmly, revealing that he had already discussed the matter with Sonakshi’s mother, indicating his awareness of her wishes. When Sonakshi revealed Zaheer’s name, her father’s supportive reaction further reassured her. “Yes, I read about it in the media. You both are adults now and capable of making your own decisions,” he responded, adding humorously, “When the bride and groom are willing, what can the Qazi do?”
Sonakshi recalled feeling relieved and overjoyed by her father’s understanding and acceptance of her choice. “That day, I felt I had truly gained Zaheer,” she shared warmly.
Sonakshi and Zaheer, who had been in a relationship for seven years, celebrated their union on June 23 in the presence of close family and friends. Their journey to gaining family approval reflects a blend of apprehension, courage, and ultimately, heartwarming acceptance in the face of significant life decisions.
