RAWALPINDI: A honey trap extortion network operating in Rawalpindi has been exposed, with shocking revelations of involvement of a police sub-inspector and a government lawyer, according to an FIR registered at the Chaklala police station.
The complaint, filed by ASI Ehsanullah, names several individuals in the racket, including Sub-Inspector Azhar Iqbal Gondal, government lawyer Nadeem Sultani, and others.
The gang used women to lure victims into compromising situations, followed by blackmail, threats, and extortion. Charges include criminal conspiracy, aiding illegal activities, and violations under the Anti-Rape Investigation and Trial Act and the Police Order.
The accusedโidentified as Nosherwan alias Niazi, Afzal Bukhari alias Zile Shah, Qaiser Mehmood, Rashid Ali, Sub-Inspector Gondal, ex-constable Mohsin Gondal, lawyer Sultani, and a fake legal practitioner named Ali Gondalโfiled bogus FIRs against victims using forged identification documents. They produced fake medical and DNA reports to coerce victims into paying large out-of-court settlements.
Authorities say the gang operated with ease due to close ties with law enforcement and court officials. Both Sub-Inspector Gondal and lawyer Sultani are accused of receiving a cut of the extorted money and using their influence within police stations and courts to support the gangโs operations.
Gang leaders Nosherwan and Afzal Bukhari were arrested in Sohawa, Jhelum, just as they were preparing to present fake complainants in court. Their detention prevented further fraudulent legal proceedings.
Officials confirm that the group filed numerous false cases across Rawalpindi and surrounding districts, using deception and fabricated evidence to exploit the legal system for profit. Investigations are ongoing, and more arrests are expected.
