Deadly Floods Hit Oman After Heavy Rainfall
Severe flooding struck parts of Oman after heavy rains linked to a low-pressure system. The situation quickly turned dangerous in several areas, including Barka. Floodwaters surged through wadis and low-lying regions, causing destruction and panic. Reports confirmed that at least 10 people lost their lives. Dozens were rescued as emergency teams worked under pressure.
The incident occurred on Sunday around 4pm. Many residents gathered near a flooded wadi to witness the rising water levels. Some people recorded videos as the situation worsened. The strong current made it risky for anyone to approach the water. Despite the danger, one man stepped forward and changed the course of events.
Pakistani Expat Risks Life to Save Stranded Passengers
The rescuer was identified as 25-year-old Shahzad Khan. He is a Pakistani worker from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa currently living in Barka. According to his account, a car tried to cross the flooded area but got stuck in the strong current. Inside the vehicle were two passengers crying for help.
Khan noticed the danger immediately. While others watched, he decided to act. In the viral video, he is seen climbing onto the partially submerged car. His first attempt to break the window using his legs failed. He then used stones to smash the glass and reach the passengers.
He later said he did not think about nationality or religion. His only focus was saving lives. One passenger was already sinking, while the other was struggling to stay above water. The car was half-filled with water and could have been swept away any moment.
Viral Video Sparks Praise Across Social Media
Eyewitnesses confirmed the intensity of the situation. A strong torrent carried the car until it struck a bridge pillar. Khan ran towards the vehicle without hesitation. People nearby tried to stop him due to the risk, but he continued. Stones were handed to him to break open the car.
Around 300 to 400 people were present at the scene. However, the force of the water kept everyone at a distance. Khanโs bravery stood out as he managed to pull both passengers out. Bystanders then helped bring them to safety.
Khan revealed that the incident reminded him of a past tragedy in Pakistan. He recalled a flood event where people were not rescued in time. That memory pushed him to act quickly.
His actions have received widespread appreciation online. Community members and officials praised his courage and humanity. Local welfare representatives confirmed that his efforts will be recognized. The viral video continues to inspire people across borders, highlighting the power of selfless action in times of crisis.
