Heavy Showers Forecast
ISLAMABAD/KARACHI: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast partly cloudy and humid conditions for Karachi, with a chance of light rain or drizzle expected during the night. While the rainfall may offer slight relief from the ongoing heatwave, temperatures are still anticipated to remain high.
As of Sunday afternoon, Karachi recorded a temperature of 30ยฐC, although humidity levels made it feel more like 35ยฐC. According to the PMD, temperatures in the city are expected to range between 28ยฐC and 35ยฐC over the next 24 hours. Despite the heat, the Air Quality Index (AQI) in Karachi remained satisfactory, with PM2.5 levels at 63โposing no significant health risk to the general public.
Nationwide Weather Outlook
Meanwhile, widespread rain and thunderstorms are expected across various parts of the country. In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, upper areas are likely to receive rainfall, while light showers may occur in the plains during nighttime hours. Peshawar will experience hot and humid conditions, and Bannu recorded a peak temperature of 40ยฐC on Saturday.
In the federal capital Islamabad and its adjoining areasโincluding Rawalpindi, Murree, Attock, and Chakwalโthunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds and rain are likely in the evening or at night. Similar weather patterns are predicted for Gujranwala and parts of northeastern Punjab.
The PMD has also issued warnings for urban flooding in low-lying areas of Lahore, Sialkot, Sargodha, and Faisalabad due to anticipated heavy rainfall in the Pothohar region and parts of Punjab.
Further north, Gilgit-Baltistan is expected to receive rain and thunderstorms in the evening. In Balochistan, areas such as Barkhan, Zhob, Musakhel, and Sibi are also forecast to experience strong winds and rainfall.
In Sindh, isolated showers are likely in Sukkur, Shikarpur, Kashmore, and Larkana.
Public Advisory
The PMD has urged the public to take precautionary measures during adverse weather. Citizens are advised to stay hydrated, avoid direct sun exposure, and remain indoors during strong winds or heavy downpours.
People living in vulnerable or low-lying areas are encouraged to stay in contact with local authorities for updates on drainage systems, road closures, and emergency support.
Furthermore, the department has warned that gusty winds and heavy rainfall could damage poorly constructed or weakened structures. Citizens are advised to stay away from open spaces, electric poles, and unprotected buildings during storms.
