PIA and Private Airlines Affected Amid Adverse Weather Conditions
KARACHI – Air travel in and out of Karachi faced major disruptions on Tuesday as heavy rains and poor weather conditions forced the cancellation and diversion of several flights. The Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) and at least one private airline had to cancel scheduled services, while a flight from the northern region was diverted due to unsafe landing conditions.
Among the disrupted services was a PIA flight from Skardu to Karachi, which was unable to land at Jinnah International Airport and was instead rerouted to Sukkur Airport. Aviation sources confirmed that multiple domestic PIA flights were canceled, including:
-
PK-308 (Karachi to Islamabad)
-
PK-310 (Karachi to Quetta)
-
PK-536 (Karachi to Sukkur)
-
The return flight from Sukkur to Karachi
Additionally, a chartered PIA flight to Islamkot was also grounded due to the inclement weather. In the private sector, flight PA-208 from Karachi to Islamabad was also canceled.
Training Aircraft Grounded for Safety
In light of ongoing rainfall and visibility issues, aviation authorities imposed a ban on small training aircraft operations. Flying schools were ordered to secure Cessna planes inside hangars using weights, minimizing the risk of damage during the stormy conditions.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department had previously issued warnings about potential urban flooding and disruptions in daily activities due to monsoon downpours. Passengers were advised to check flight statuses before heading to the airport and expect possible delays in the coming days if the weather persists.
