Karachi Faces Prolonged Rain Spell Amid High Humidity
The Pakistan Meteorological Department has forecast continued rainfall in Karachi until August 22, cautioning residents to brace for intermittent light to heavy showers throughout the week. On Sunday night, light drizzle kept parts of the city wet, while the sea breeze stalled, contributing to rising humidity levels, which reached 78%.
Despite a current temperature of 30ยฐC, the weather feels closer to 35ยฐC due to high moisture in the air. Winds are mild, blowing at just 5 knots, while daytime highs are expected to hover between 34ยฐC and 36ยฐC. Authorities have advised residents to stay alert for potential urban flooding in low-lying zones.
Widespread Showers in Punjab and KP Trigger Flooding and Disruption
In Punjab, Multan and surrounding areas experienced light showers, improving overall weather conditions. However, Attock, Layyah, Dunyapur, and Athara Hazari were hit with heavy rainfall and thunderstorms, leading to flooded streets and fields, especially in low-lying areas. The sudden downpour resulted in power outages, while farmers voiced concerns over crop damage due to excessive water accumulation.
Meanwhile, in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, multiple districts including Peshawar, Abbottabad, Landikotal, and Khyber faced torrential rains with thunderstorms. Peshawarโs low-lying regions were submerged, causing traffic congestion and posing mobility challenges for commuters. The Met Office predicts intermittent rainfall in KP until August 21, with moderate flooding already reported in local drains and streams.
In Abbottabad, particularly the Havelian region, residents struggled with waterlogging caused by intense rainfall, while forecasts suggest more rain over the next two days.
