Heavy rain and thunderstorms are expected across the country today. The Meteorological Department has predicted a fresh rain spell with thunderstorms and lightning beginning today in various regions. This marks the 11th spell of the monsoon season that will continue across Punjab until September 19.
Punjab on High Alert
The Met Office has predicted rain in most Punjab districts over the next 24 hours. The PDMA Director General warned of rising water levels in streams and rivers in Rawalpindi, Murree, and Galiyat. Consequently, the Punjab chief minister directed the district administration to remain on high alert.
Rain Forecast for Punjab and Islamabad
Rain is expected in Rawalpindi, Murree, Galiyat, Jhelum, Attock, Chakwal, Lahore, Sargodha, Khushab, Sialkot, Narowal, Kasur, Hafizabad, Faisalabad, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrat, and Gujranwala. The Met Department also confirmed rainfall for Islamabad and the surrounding areas.
Forecast for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will also receive rainfall in Peshawar, Swat, Kohat, Mardan, Dir, Chitral, Bannu, Bajaur, Abbottabad, Swabi, and Mansehra. Strong winds and thunderstorms may accompany the showers in these districts.
Conditions in Other Provinces
In Balochistan, the weather will remain partly cloudy with no major rain activity forecast. Sindh will likely experience hot and dry conditions across most districts. However, scattered rain cannot be ruled out in some areas.
Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan Outlook
The forecast indicates rain in Azad Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan, with thunderstorms and strong winds at a few locations. Isolated heavy rainfall is also possible in northeastern Punjab, Kashmir, and adjoining hilly areas.
