Swift Response Across Multiple Sectors
ISLAMABAD, Feb 26 โ Pakistan said on Thursday that its security forces responded immediately and effectively after the Afghan military opened unprovoked fire on multiple locations along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
In a statement posted on X, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting said Afghan Taliban forces โmiscalculatedโ by targeting several border positions. Consequently, Pakistani troops launched a prompt counter-response to neutralize the threat and secure affected areas.
According to the government, clashes took place in the Chitral, Khyber, Mohmand, Kurram and Bajaur sectors. Security forces actively engaged hostile positions and retaliated against firing sources to prevent further escalation. Officials stated that the response aimed to safeguard civilians and maintain control along sensitive border ุงูู ูุงุทู.
Heavy Casualties Reported on Afghan Side
The statement added that Taliban regime forces were being โdelivered punishmentโ in the affected sectors. Early reports, officials claimed, confirmed heavy casualties on the Afghan side, while multiple posts and equipment were destroyed during the exchange. However, authorities did not disclose specific casualty figures.
Meanwhile, Pakistan reaffirmed its commitment to protecting its territorial integrity and ensuring the safety of its citizens. Security forces strengthened defensive positions and remained on high alert following the incident.
Border tensions between the two neighboring countries have surfaced periodically in recent months, despite previous efforts to maintain coordination. Nevertheless, officials stressed that any aggression would receive a firm and proportionate response.
The government emphasized that it seeks regional stability; however, it will take all necessary measures to defend national sovereignty and prevent further cross-border incidents.
