A sixth case of polio in Pakistan for 2025 has been confirmed in the Thatta district of Sindh. This marks the fourth polio case in Sindh this year, with one case each also reported from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab.
The National Institute of Health (NIH) and the National Polio Laboratory have confirmed the infection in a child from Thatta. This development has raised concerns over the ongoing challenges in eradicating the virus despite continuous efforts.
Health officials have once again emphasized the importance of enhancing vaccination coverage, especially in high-risk areas. Last year, Pakistan saw a total of 74 polio cases, underscoring the persistent difficulties in eliminating the disease.
Experts highlight that misinformation and access barriers continue to be significant obstacles in the fight against polio.
