Sindh Education Dept. Uncovers 5,000 Ghost Teachers, Orders Action

KARACHI: The Sindh Education Department has uncovered nearly 5,000 ghost teachers drawing salaries without performing their duties.

Sindh Education Minister Syed Sardar Ali Shah has directed the removal of these employees from the payroll and approved disciplinary action against them, according to official sources.

The department also plans to recruit new teachers from the merit list to fill the vacant positions left by the ghost employees.

Last year, the education department instructed district education officers (DEOs) to stop salaries of over 1,000 absent teachers.

A report submitted by the Scrutiny Committee in October 2025 revealed that 1,000 teachers across Sindh were absent from duty. The committee was formed after numerous complaints about ghost teachers in the province.
