Punjab University Permits Baloch Student to Attend Classes and Take Exams

LAHORE: Punjab University has granted Sadia Baloch, a fifth-year LLB student, permission to attend classes and sit for her exams despite her recent rustication.

Sadia was suspended on June 10 following accusations of making objectionable remarks against public institutions during a protest on the New Campus.

An official notification revealed that the chief security officer had recommended a 15-day suspension for Sadia.

However, her admission status was processed by the Law College before the suspension letter was received, thus not affecting her ability to take exams this year. The disciplinary committee is set to review her case and make a final decision later.

Following the chief security officer’s recommendation, the Vice Chancellor of Punjab University approved Sadia’s participation in classes and exams. She will be monitored, and her final result or degree will be issued only after the disciplinary committee’s decision.

Sadia Baloch told Dawn that she plans to address the disciplinary committee after her exams to present her side of the story. She explained that her involvement in the protest was a response to the arrest of fellow students by law enforcement, and the rally was organized to demand their release.

A university spokesperson confirmed that Sadia’s admission remains active and that she is allowed to take her exams. The disciplinary committee will later meet to deliberate on the issue, and the issuance of her degree will be contingent on the resolution of the allegations against her.

In other news, the Punjab University Department of Examinations has released roll number slips for the upcoming LLB exams, scheduled to start on August 22, 2024. Regular students from affiliated colleges have received their slips via email, while campus-based students can download theirs from the university’s website.
