Cambridge International Education announced results on Tuesday for its largest-ever June exam series, covering Cambridge International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE), O-Level, and International AS and A-Level exams globally.
This year saw over 1.6 million entries worldwide, marking a 9% increase from the previous year.
In Pakistan, more than 100,000 students across 683 schools participated in Cambridge assessments, including O-Levels, IGCSEs, and International AS and A-Levels. The total number of entries from Pakistan exceeded 226,000 for O-Levels and IGCSEs, and over 125,000 for AS and A-Levels.
Among the O-Level and IGCSE subjects, Pakistan Studies, Islamiyat, Mathematics, English Language, and Urdu as a Second Language were the most popular. For AS and A-Levels, students showed a strong interest in Physics, Mathematics, Business, Chemistry, and Computer Science.
Notably, Business has now surpassed Chemistry in popularity, and Computer Science has entered the top five subjects, replacing Economics.
Rod Smith, Group Managing Director for International Education at Cambridge, extended his congratulations to students and teachers in Pakistan. He emphasized the importance of international education in helping students adapt to global challenges.
“It’s heartening to see more young people choosing international education to thrive in a changing world,” Smith said.
Uzma Yousuf, Cambridge’s Country Director for Pakistan, praised the students for their hard work and perseverance. She highlighted the shift in focus towards subjects that develop future skills, reflecting a growing awareness of global challenges and opportunities.
Cambridge’s June 2024 global exam series included over 1.9 million entries for various qualifications, such as Cambridge Checkpoint, IGCSE, International AS & A-Level, and the International Project Qualification, marking a 10% increase from last year.
With over 160 years of experience, Cambridge continues to offer qualifications to nearly one million students in 160 countries each year.
