A, O Level Exam Centers to Stay Open During SCO Events

SCO Events

ISLAMABAD: Authorities have confirmed that educational institutions conducting Cambridge O and A level examinations will remain open, even though the federal government has declared a three-day public holiday ahead of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit.

This announcement ensures that students will not face any disruption in their exam schedules.

Deputy Commissioner Islamabad, Irfan Nawaz, addressed the matter on Thursday through a post on his official X (formerly Twitter) account.

He clarified that “all the examinations scheduled between October 14 and 16, 2024, will be held as per schedule,” reassuring students and parents that the exam centers in Islamabad will remain operational despite the summit-related holidays.

The government’s announcement of the public holidays from October 14 to 16 is part of broader efforts to ensure smooth preparations and the successful execution of the high-profile SCO summit, which will see the participation of nine member countries, including China, India, Iran, and Russia. The summit is scheduled to take place on October 15 and 16 in Islamabad.

Cambridge examinations will be conducted in three centers across Islamabad, located in Sector E-11, Sector H8, and Noor Mahal on GT Road.

Despite the large-scale shutdown of various public services, these centers will continue to function, allowing students to appear for their exams without any interruption.

In preparation for the summit, additional security and logistical measures are being implemented in the twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad.

As part of these preparations, authorities have also announced a five-day closure of marriage halls, restaurants, and cafes, from October 12 to 16.

Notices have been issued to traders and hotel owners by local law enforcement, warning them of penalties in case of violations during this period.

These efforts underline Pakistan’s commitment to providing a secure and organized environment for the SCO summit while ensuring minimal disruption to key activities such as education.

The government’s balanced approach has been widely acknowledged, as it prioritizes both the summit and the academic needs of students in the region.
