The dengue outbreak continues to intensify across Punjab, with health officials reporting 23 new cases in the past 24 hours, bringing the province’s total number of patients this year to 3,097.
According to a spokesperson for the Punjab Health Department, the spread of the mosquito-borne virus remains active in multiple districts, prompting renewed warnings for citizens to adopt preventive measures.
Over the past seven days alone, 338 new dengue cases have been recorded across Punjab, while 1,486 patients have been confirmed during the current month. Lahore, Rawalpindi, and Murree remain among the most affected areas, with Rawalpindi leading in reported infections.
The breakdown of this year’s total cases includes 565 from Lahore, 1,371 from Rawalpindi, and 122 from Murree. Other districts have also seen smaller but consistent numbers, indicating a widespread pattern of transmission.
Health authorities have urged the public to remain vigilant as weather conditions continue to favour mosquito breeding. The department has reinforced public awareness campaigns, emphasizing the importance of eliminating standing water in residential and commercial areas, using mosquito repellents, and ensuring proper sanitation to reduce breeding sites.
Citizens have been advised to cover water containers, clean roof gutters, and dispose of waste properly to prevent the accumulation of stagnant water.
The Punjab government has directed all district health officers to intensify anti-dengue surveillance and fumigation drives, especially in high-risk urban areas. Hospitals across the province have been instructed to ensure adequate arrangements for patient treatment and laboratory testing.
Health teams continue door-to-door inspections, distributing awareness pamphlets and identifying mosquito larvae hotspots. Officials have reiterated that community cooperation remains essential to controlling the spread of dengue and minimizing further infections as case numbers continue to climb.
