BANNU: A head constable lost his life, whereas three other policemen were injured when militants opened fire at their vehicle in the Sheikhan Mama Khel area on Saturday.
The police were on their normal duty when the attackers opened fire at their vehicle. The police also opened fire at the attackers. During the exchange of fire between the police and attackers, two attackers were killed, whereas four others were injured.
The attackers then set fire to the police vehicle and escaped from the scene. The police recovered two motorcycles belonging to the attackers and are searching for them.
Regional Police Officer Sajjad Khan later went to the hospital to check on the injured men.
The head constable who died has been identified as Dilnawaz Khan.
In another attack in Wazir Tehsil of Bannu, the police repelled an attack by militants near the under-construction circular road in Khara Ghora. The police were out on patrol when the attack came.
However, the attackers also received injuries in the exchange of fire, it was said by local people. The terror attacks have increased manifold in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa over the last year.
According to the Centre for Research and Security Studies, the number of killings due to terror attacks in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has increased from 1,620 in 2024 to 2,331 in 2025. Bannu has witnessed quite a few terror attacks over the last few days.
