Unplanned Dance Turns Singer’s Wedding Into Cultural Showcase
Pakistani singer Hasan Raheem says his wedding turned into a “crash course on Gilgit” for the entire country — and beyond. What started as a personal celebration quickly became a viral cultural moment, thanks to his unplanned dance performances and the rich traditions of Gilgit-Baltistan.
In a recent interview with Haroon Rashid on BBC Asian Network, Hasan opened up about the now-famous event, sharing that none of it was choreographed or meant to go public. “I would just stand up every five minutes. ‘Stop it, it’s my wedding!’ I’d say, and start dancing again,” he laughed.
The singer’s vibrant wedding videos — full of traditional music, spontaneous dancing, and heartfelt moments — were widely shared across social media, offering many Pakistanis their first intimate look at Gilgit-Baltistan’s culture.
Family, Fun, and a Viral Surprise
Hasan admitted that the attention was unexpected. “I wasn’t planning to document it,” he said. In fact, his mother even suggested taking guests’ phones away to avoid filming. “But our family would’ve gotten upset,” he added. “Then everything just started coming online. My cousins turned into influencers for six days!”
He credited his mother for encouraging him to embrace his roots, proudly wearing cultural attire and performing traditional Gilgiti dance moves. The viral videos were full of joy, rhythm, and authenticity, drawing admiration from across the country and among the diaspora.
“I saw a meme saying I kept a bit of a wedding in my dance,” Hasan joked. “If the music career doesn’t work out, we’re dance choreographers now!”
The singer officially announced his marriage to his cousin in August, months after teasing fans with a wedding-themed music promotion in April that had sparked speculation.
