The Palestinian resistance group Hamas has confirmed the death of Abu Ubaida. He served as the groupโs iconic wartime spokesman throughout the Gaza conflict. Hamas said several senior military commanders also died during the war. The confirmation came after nearly two years of fighting with Israel.
In a recorded statement released on Monday, Hamas addressed the losses. The statement came from its armed wing, the Qassam Brigades. Hamas identified Abu Ubaida by his real name, Hudhayfah Abdullah al-Kahlout.
It said he was killed during Israeli military operations in Gaza.
Abu Ubaida rarely appeared in public and always concealed his identity. However, his recorded messages reached audiences across the world. Throughout the war, he delivered frequent updates and warnings. As a result, he became the most recognisable voice of Hamas.
Role During the War
Abu Ubaida played a central role in Hamasโ media strategy. He addressed supporters during major battlefield developments.Moreover, he commented on ceasefire talks and Israeli operations. His speeches often circulated widely on social media platforms.
Hamas credited him with maintaining morale during intense bombardment. The group said his messaging reflected resilience and resistance. Consequently, his death marks a major symbolic loss for Hamas.
Supporters viewed him as a steady presence during the conflict.
Alongside Abu Ubaida, Hamas confirmed the death of Mohammed Sinwar. Sinwar served as chief of staff of the Qassam Brigades. He assumed the role after the death of longtime commander Mohammed Deif.
According to Hamas, he led during an exceptionally difficult period.
Mohammed Sinwar was the brother of Yahya Sinwar. Yahya Sinwar remains Hamasโ political chief in Gaza.
The group said Mohammed Sinwar played a crucial leadership role. His death further deepens the leadership vacuum within Hamas.
Senior Commanders Killed
Hamas also confirmed the deaths of several other commanders. Among them was Mohammed Shabana, commander of the Rafah Brigade. The group said Shabana died alongside Yahya Sinwar. His death occurred during heavy fighting in southern Gaza.
Hamas further announced the killing of Hakam al-Issa. Al-Issa oversaw training, military education, and strategic planning. He held a senior position within the armed wing. The group described him as a key architect of its military doctrine.
Raed Saad was also confirmed dead
Hamas identified him as head of weapons manufacturing. He previously served as chief of operations.
His loss affects Hamasโ logistical and operational capacity.ย Despite these losses, Hamas rejected claims of weakening.
The group said its leadership knowingly paid a heavy price. However, it insisted the resistance will continue.
Hamas framed the deaths as part of a prolonged struggle.
