Pakistan has made significant progress in expanding overseas employment opportunities for its workforce. A new agreement with Italy and ongoing talks with Gulf countries signal growing international demand for Pakistani workers.
Federal Minister for Overseas Pakistanis Salik Hussain confirmed that Pakistan and Italy have finalized negotiations on a structured employment scheme. As a result, Pakistani workers will soon gain access to lawful job opportunities in Italy.
Pakistan and Italy Finalize Employment Framework
According to the minister, the agreement reflects stronger cooperation on labor mobility. It also opens new pathways for Pakistanis seeking stable employment in Europe.
Moreover, an Italian delegation is expected to visit Pakistan next month. The visit will focus on finalizing operational procedures and implementation mechanisms. Officials say this step will ensure transparency and efficient recruitment.
Consequently, both sides aim to streamline processes and protect workersโ rights. The initiative is being described as a major step toward regulated overseas employment.
Dedicated Job Quota Secured for Pakistani Workers
Pakistan has also secured a dedicated employment quota from Italy. Under the arrangement, 10,500 Pakistani workers will be hired over three years.
Each year, 3,500 workers will travel to Italy through legal channels. The quota includes 1,500 seasonal jobs and 2,000 non-seasonal positions annually.
Importantly, this marks the first time a European country has formally allocated a country-specific employment quota for Pakistan. Officials believe the move will strengthen long-term workforce planning.
Multiple Sectors Open for Pakistani Workforce
Italian authorities have opened several sectors for Pakistani workers. These include shipbreaking, agriculture, healthcare, and hospitality.
Pakistani nationals will work as welders, technicians, chefs, waiters, nurses, and agricultural laborers. Demand also exists for housekeeping staff and medical technicians.
Officials say the diversity of sectors reflects confidence in Pakistanโs skilled and semi-skilled workforce.
Gulf Countries Consider Visa Easing Measures
Meanwhile, Pakistan has also held discussions with key Gulf states. Talks have taken place with Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Bahrain, and Kuwait regarding visa facilitation.
The minister stated that the goal is smoother access to Gulf job markets. Improved visa policies could also enhance working conditions for Pakistani expatriates.
Encouragingly, Gulf countries have responded positively to Pakistanโs proposals. The government expects practical measures to follow these discussions.
Government Focus on Legal and Safe Employment
The government has reaffirmed its commitment to expanding safe and lawful employment pathways. Officials say overseas job creation remains a national priority.
As international cooperation grows, Pakistanโs workforce stands to benefit from broader access to global labor markets.
