Rockstar Games has announced a second postponement for Grand Theft Auto 6, now scheduled for release on November 19, 2026, extending the timeline for one of gaming’s most highly anticipated titles.
The developer originally planned a May 2026 launch after already pushing back from autumn 2025. Thursday’s statement cited the need for additional development time to achieve the quality standards fans expect from the franchise.
Rockstar apologized for extending the wait while expressing enthusiasm about players experiencing Leonida a fictional Florida-inspired state and a contemporary reimagining of Vice City, the Miami-based location from earlier franchise entries. The game follows protagonists Jason and Lucia, partners navigating criminal enterprise across the expansive southeastern setting.
This delay follows controversial workforce reductions at Rockstar’s UK facilities, where 31 employees were terminated on October 30. The Independent Workers’ Union of Great Britain alleges these dismissals aimed to prevent unionization efforts, prompting protests outside Edinburgh and London offices. Take-Two Interactive, Rockstar’s parent company, has not commented on these accusations.
Marketing for GTA 6 remains deliberately limited, with only two trailers released. The second, launched in May, accumulated over 100 million views and provided deeper insight into character backgrounds, supporting cast, and explorable territories within the game’s fictional universe.
