ISLAMABAD: A proposal to discontinue the circulation of the Rs 5000 bill is slated for discussion in the upcoming Senate session today at 3:00 pm, chaired by Senate Chairman Sadiq Sanjrani.
The session aims to address concerns about the declining value of the rupee and the shortage of the dollar.
Moreover, the session will witness the introduction of a resolution opposing the surge in electricity and gas prices. The agenda also includes the presentation of the amendment bills for the Prevention and Control of Human Trafficking Ordinance and the Criminal Law.
Furthermore, proposed amendments to the Guardian and Wards Act, Governance and Operations Act, and Right of Access to Information Act will be tabled for consideration during the meeting.
This initiative follows a previous notice in September that circulated regarding the government’s intent to discontinue the highest denomination of the Pakistani rupee.
However, interim Information Minister Murtaza Solangi dismissed the notification as false, promising action against those spreading misleading information to incite unrest.
These developments unfold against a backdrop of challenges including rupee devaluation, soaring electricity costs, and inflation gripping the nation.
